Museum Visits 2016- Belfast Exposed

Perhaps a museum more suited to our assignment was the second museum we visited ‘Belfast Exposed’.

‘Belfast Exposed is Northern Ireland’s principal gallery of contemporary photography, commissioning, publishing and showing work by artists and photographers from Northern Ireland and across the world.’

While we were there we saw the work of two different artists.

The first was Joanne Mullin whose work is described as ‘a contemplative observation of space, memory and conflict, exploring how a place operates as an archive of its traumatic history.’ Her work of architecture is to act as a representation of the issues of power, gender and control.

For Belfast Exposed in particular she created a body of work focusing on psychological impact on the changing landscape of Northern Ireland by looking at the interiors of a decommissioned Police station

The next exhibition we saw was ‘SEEING WITH YOUR EYES’ by Peter Dressler. This which apparently is his first major solo exhibition in Ireland.

This exhibition was designed for us to be able to see through Dressler’s eyes and in doing so be opened up to a new perspective through which to consider the human condition.

Basically these photos presented Mr Dressler in various different characterizations, museum attendant, aristocrat, businessman etc. showing different perspectives by showing these characters in positions considered irrational for what society perceives.

I rather liked the exhibitions at Belfast Exposed, it was a nice excursion for the day to see different artists work.
