Anne Belmont- Task two research

Anne Belmont focuses her photography based on her close connection to nature.

When she was a kid she would explore all the natural world that surrounded her in the small town in Illinois where she grew up.

Anne views her photography as a way to show her perception of the natural environment and her passion for it.

‘My hope is that my work will elicit a deeper appreciation for nature as well as a greater desire to protect the environment’

What inspired me was Anne’s ‘365 project- Textures and Patterns in Nature’.

On the 1st June 2013

Anne took a photo everyday focusing on the textures and patterns shown in nature up close.

Some of my favorite photos from the project-

1. ' Day 33- waiting for butterflies'

i really love the colors expressed in this photo. The sharp in focus oranges against the out of focus greens. the attention to detail is also beautiful on the petals of the flower.

What Anne says- ' Asclepias tuberosa, or butterfly milkweed, has bloomed in my butterfly garden. Just waiting for the butterflies to arrive to partake of its nectar! These tiny flowers are beautiful and fascinating up-close and they are an important food source for the monarchs. The monarch population is plummeting, partly due to the use of genetically modified corn and soybean crops planted throughout the mid west. The use of herbicide-tolerant crops has wiped out all the milkweed that grew among the crops and fed the butterflies as they migrate north. This makes it all the more important for us to develop small gardens of milkweed for the butterflies. I'm trying to do my part'

2. 'Day 49- heart on johns island'

what I like about this photo is the contrast of textures. The smooth surfaces of the rocks against the scraped flaking wood. Not only this put it combines natures patterns with humans perceptions with the placing of the rocks as a heart shape.

What Anne says- ' I just returned from a fabulous vacation in the Northwest - visiting family in Seattle, exploring Olympic National Park and the San Juan Islands. We were visiting some close friends of my sister and brother-in-law on this tiny island among the San Juan Islands. Fred and Marita, both photographers, are among a handful of people who live on this island. I came across this piece of art someone had carefully assembled on a picnic table as we hiked from the boat in the bay to their house on the opposite side of the island. A good pattern to depict how I felt about this very special week in the NW!'

3. 'Day 56- cedar tree- in woods at lake Crescent'

What I love about this photo is the lighting combined with he focus, the dark green shadows are kept out of focus while the bright greens are kept in focus. this really draws attention to the detail on the leaves.

4. 'Day 89- succulent on the ranch'

What i like about this photo is how it almost looks like a painting due to the vibrant colors and textures shown by how close up it is.
