Lucy Shires- Task Two Research

Lucy Shires is a Manchester born photographer, with a passion for abstract and urban art.

The city of Manchester provided a wide variety of architectural and past industry inspiration.

Now Lucy and her fiancé David, now travel the world photographing and documenting historical abandoned buildings.

A year ago Lucy made a project gallery called 'Textures', its this work in particular which relates to my task and will help me in therms of inspiration.

On her website she describes texture as 'The feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance. Textures themselves are patterns, works of art, intentional or otherwise, they surround us.'

Here are three of my favourite photos from the 'Textures' collection.

1.

What I love about this picture is the contrast of textures. the cracked and peeling paint white paint and the smooth blue wall behind it. Its very appealing to the eyes dew to this contrast.

2.

A lot like the first image this photo shows a very direct colour contrast, this time the colours are more sharp, this photo is very eye catching for this reason. The light switch in the middle of photo also acts like a base for where the eye is immediately drawn.

3.

Lastly this is one of my favourite photos for the reason that is is something normally over looked. what i mean by that is when in a city for example Belfast there is texture every where and it becomes also common to the eye. This photo shows texture in the metal work and graffiti, that which is normally just walked past without a thought it brought to attention.
